Is this your event?About the event
Los Angeles Film in a Hat is a welcoming, low-pressure meetup for people who want to actually make things together. Every week, the goal is simple: One scene. One location. One short film or sketch. Anyone can submit a short script ahead of time. Scripts should be simple, shootable, and ideally around 2–4 pages, with one location that’s easy to access — an apartment, park, backyard, sidewalk, parking lot, outside a café, etc. We’ll choose the script together in advance so that when Sunday comes, we can spend our time actually making it. We’ll meet at a coffee shop at 3 PM, hang out, meet everyone, read through the script together, figure out cast and crew, and then go shoot it. If you have experience, equipment, or a role you’d especially like to take on, you’re welcome to volunteer ahead of time. Want to direct, shoot, record sound, act, edit, produce, or do something else? Great. Have a camera, microphones, lights, tripod, or other easy-to-carry gear you’re happy to bring? Amazing. Whatever roles are still open can go into the hat. You absolutely do not need professional experience or fancy equipment to join. If someone brings great gear, we’ll use it. If nobody does, I have an iPhone and some wireless mics. That’s enough. The thing we make might turn out great. It might be weird. It might be messy. It might be terrible. That’s totally fine. The whole point is to get into the habit of creating instead of waiting for the perfect script, crew, budget, equipment, or opportunity. We want to write things, shoot things, act in things, try new roles, meet other creative people, learn from each other, and actually finish stuff.
Sunday schedule
3:00–3:30 PM — Meet up, introductions, coffee, read through the script 3:30–4:00 PM — Figure out cast and crew, make a quick plan, head to the location 4:00–6:30 PM — Shoot 6:30–7:00 PM — Pickups, wrap, and celebrate making something No budget required. No fancy gear required. No need to be an expert. Just bring yourself, a collaborative attitude, and anything you’d be excited to contribute. One scene. One location. One short or sketch. Every week. Really excited and grateful to anyone who wants to spend a few hours making things together.
