About the event

Wednesday October 14 * doors at 6:30, show at 7 * in the backyard, weather permitting * $15-25 * TICKETS Join us as Ex Lamp (James June Schneider) projects onto the side of the house during sets of music by iiisa and the debut of a duo project by Heather Stebbins and Rachel Beetz. Not to be missed! Merging field recordings, poemsongs, and familial voices from their home in Costa Rica, iiisa builds memory portals for the kindling of transformation. With a “pliable and fearless voice” (I Care If You Listen), they deftly guide the listener through ephemeral vignettes. Their work has been presented by Roulette Intermedium, Big Ears Festival, and Pioneer Works, and their debut album will be released in Fall 2026 on Leaving Records. “an electrifying figure [...] with practices that collide and meld a variety of approaches, whether rooted in tradition or radical, through the lens of improvisation”— Peter Margasak (The Wire) Heather Stebbins is a DC-based composer and multi-instrumentalist whose work explores the porous boundary between memory and emotion. She foregrounds cello, synthesizer, and an array of other electronics, creating music that is imbued with patience, unfolding slowly over the course of multi-movement suites. Her new album, On Separation, was released by Outside Time in May. Composer, flutist, and improviser Rachel Beetz explores presence through sound and listening. Her works recreate physical atmospheres based on her deep listening adventures in the wild, exploring hidden worlds of nature and machines. Combining experimental field recordings and electronically modified flutes, her works examine community, environmentalism, and women’s work through sound, textiles, and lighting. Her projects have been featured in concert halls and galleries in Australia, Iceland, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Ex Lamp (James June Schneider) (Washington, D.C.) has been performing video either solo or as a band member since 2002 when he played with AE (with ½ of plunderphonic pioneers Stock, Hausen and Walkman ). Tonight he will project a new piece (visuals only), H2O and Back.
