Joe Hummel Memorial Philly Hike 8.5 2.5 mph 11 or 13 mi 3 mph
About the event
Joe Hummel led this hike for many years. Joe used route published in the Inquirer.
What milesge option? Could offer walk over Schuykill River trail bridge if every one wants to do at least 11 miles or get another leader I have been leading it for the past 3 years. Joe and his son came on my hike years ago snd walked over the Ben franklin as well.
We will pass along some historic sites, interesting views along the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers and interesting neighborhoods between the rivers.
8.5 mile option does not go over tension bridge or go to art museum
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/53041722 11 mile version goes SE on SRT after lunch, goes over new tension bridge crosses river, heads NW thru Penn Medical, Penn University campuses, and onto 30th street station. 11 then go down Market st to 19th rt to Rittenhouse sq and onto 16th and locust and Patco
13 mile version goes NW on SRT after 30th st station, to Art museum,Frnaklin Institute, 19 th st to Rittenhouse Sq to Patco
Not part of hike is an on your own stop at Park restarant at end of hike.
Take train back to your NJ start location.
Patco's hi-speed line last stop in Phila (16th and Locust.)
SUGGEST using the PATCO train and meet at the WOODCREST station at 9:00am TO GET TO START LOC.
Purchasing a round trip ticket makes sense. Parking is no problem.
WALKING OVER BRIDGE OPTION 1.9 miles. Meet at Westmont Station at 8:15 AM. I,Wendell Gulick, will be there. Should be plenty of PARKING ACROSS street, Crystal Lake Ave, FROM STATION under tracks.
If you use other methods to 6th and Mkt. good luck!
Bring supply of water and lunch. Realize hike can can be a bit tricky. If anything happens will let you know!
