Austin History Center Paint Out
About the event
Come paint the Austin History Center with us! A stunning 1933 Renaissance Revival limestone building designed by Austin architect Hugo Kuehne, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and proudly serving as Austin's first permanent public library. The building features craftsmanship from local artisans, including ironwork by Fortunat Wiegl, wood carvings by Peter Mansbendel, and frescoes by Harold "Bubi" Jessen. The AHC recently reopened in December 2025 after an eight-year, $14.5 million renovation that brought new exhibit spaces and updated facilities to this civic treasure. What to bring:
• The art medium and supplies you'd like to work in — no supplies will be provided • Water and sun protection, as the paint out will be outdoors (there is limited shade around the building's exterior)
Good to know:
• This paint out will focus on the building's beautiful exterior and surrounding grounds. We do not have approval to paint inside the building. • Restrooms will not be available on site. • Parking: Metered parking is available on the south side of the building, as well as metered street parking in the area. • Plan to use public transportation or carpool if you would like to avoid paid parking.
