Musical Elio, seventeen, is spending the summer on holiday in Northern Italy with his parents. Elio's father receives a visit from his twenty-four-year-old American research assistant Oliver. The chemistry between the two young men is immediate, and an affair begins to blossom.
The summer of 1983 becomes not only memorable but also leads to a sexual and emotional awakening for Elio. He is played convincingly by the then very young talent Timothée Chalamet, who achieved his breakthrough with this love drama and especially its touching final scene. Master of romantic dramas James Ivory is behind the screenplay, which is based on a novel by André Aciman.
