Crime Pays But Botany Doesn’t

Come and join a lively 90 minutes of rants consisting of a blend of comedy and plant science education regarding Modern Horticulture based on Joey Santore’s new book “Concrete Botany”. From the book cover: “In Concrete Botany, Joey Santore … delivers a raw, relentlessly smart, and eye-opening takedown of the ecological destruction caused by modern civilization. Through weed-choked lots and abandoned rail corridors, Santore reveals the badass resilience of plants and the critical role they play in healing our human-trashed planet. Equal parts rant, field guide, and call to action, this gritty manifesto blends unfiltered truth with botanical accuracy, urging us to restore native ecosystems starting right outside our very own doors. It's not just about plants - it's about survival. Ours and theirs.” Joey Santore is a self-taught botanist and creator of the widely followed YouTube channel Crime Pays But Botany Doesn’t. After nearly 15 years working on the railroad, he left in 2019 to study and document plant life in the field, traveling widely across a range of landscapes. Through his videos, writing, and social media, Santore highlights plant life in both wild and heavily altered environments, encouraging people to look more closely at the species and systems around them. "To use Rap as a reference, if Joey Santore's YouTube channel, Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't, is his celebrated mixtapes, then his first book, Concrete Botany, is his Illmatic! What Hunter S. Thompson did for Vegas and Anthony Bourdain did for vegetables, Joey Santore does for vegetation." - Lupe Fiasco
