Dakar Dream
About the event
The US Premiere featuring a Q&A with director Alexander Volberding Presented in Wolof with English subtitles At the westernmost point of Africa, the Dakar peninsula catches swell 365 days a year, and its surfers have been riding it for four generations. DAKAR DREAM follows three of them chasing what comes next: the WSL, the Olympics, a surf school to raise the generation. Shot from the surfers’ POV, with no interviews, no fed lines, no staged scenes, the film unfolds through their own cameras and WhatsApp voice notes. It reveals a scene with a style all its own, drawn from the color and rhythm of Senegalese life. Four years in the making, this isn’t a story about what Dakar’s surfers lack. It’s about what they’ve built. And now they’re ready to be found. The US Premiere of the documentary directed by Alexander Volberding
