Since young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason won the BBC Young Musician Award in 2016, he has captured concert stages and hearts around the world. He makes his debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra performing Saint-Saëns's compelling First Cello Concerto. Conductor Semyon Bychkov frames the romantic work with the Dutch premiere of the exhilarating Frenzy – John Adams at his best! – and a true classic: Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition
Mussorgsky composed Pictures at an Exhibition in memory of a close friend, the painter Viktor Hartman. The collection of ten paintings, drawings, and sketches offers impressions of daily life and bizarre fantasies from the world of fairy tales and legends. Powerful images of old Russia pass in review, and orchestral wizard Maurice Ravel brings Mussorgsky's sound paintings even more to life with his dazzling orchestration.
