Sinfonia Toronto's 28th season begins with an evening that moves between joy and longing. Pianist Sheng Cai, celebrated across four continents, brings Beethoven's sparkling Piano Concerto No. 2 to life before Maestro Nurhan Arman leads the orchestra in the world premiere of Ergir (Homeland), a piece rooted in ancestral memory by Jules Léger Prize-winning Canadian composer Vahram Sargsyan. The night closes with Beethoven's beloved "Harp" String Quartet in a sweeping orchestral arrangement.
