Culture and Connection: A Celebration of Somali Culture Through A Song of Her Own
About the event
Join us for an immersive program celebrating the upcoming first anniversary of the book’s publication. Through the story of seven-year-old Kiin and the Somali cultural wisdom woven through it, this program invites children, families, and educators into an intergenerational exploration of creativity, self-discovery, and what it means to find your voice through what is already closest to you.
Listen to the author, Saida Bulhan, read selected excerpts from the book while exploring powerful themes of Somali cultural wisdom, creativity, and finding one's unique voice.
The event includes an engaging community dialogue focused on identity and storytelling, creating a space for shared connection. Additionally, an interactive exploration will use Somali cultural objects and nomadic traditions from the story as entry points, inviting everyone to reflect deeply on their own culture, family connections, and everyday environments.
