Grow & Tell Plant Club
About the event
Hey there, thanks for clicking! Grow & Tell is a new plant club we're starting here in Lisbon. We're based in Aconchego House, and meet once a month.
In each session you'll get a talk on the houseplant care topic of the month, followed by a hands-on workshop. Then you get to avail of the club's "bring a plant, take a plant" swap table. Don't worry, even if you don't bring a plant yourself, we'll do our best to make sure you get to take one home. We will also have a sick plant clinic at each session. If you've got a sickly Alocasia, or a stubborn Begonia, bring it along! We'll see if we can help. We finish the night with a raffle, and the best plant on the table goes home with the winner. Over time, you'll get to learn all of the ins and outs of the wonderful hobby of plant care, as well as connect (and swap plant cuttings) with plenty of like-minded people.
So come along! It'll be a blast.
Session 1: Potting mixes First session, and we're starting where most houseplant problems start: the soil. We'll go through what your plants are actually growing in out in the wild, and what that tells you about what should be in the pot.
Then we'll get the bags out. Compost, orchid bark, perlite, LECA, worm humus and sphagnum moss, passed around so you can get a feel for them, with a rough idea of what each one costs and where to buy it in Lisbon.
After that, hands in the soil. Aconchego have a few overcrowded monsteras that need splitting, so we'll take them apart together and you'll mix your own substrate and repot one. They will stay here at the House, so you can come back next month and see how yours is doing.
Bring a plant or a cutting for the swap table if you have one to spare, and bring any sick plants you want us to look at.
