Calling all Starfleet recruits! This summer is your last chance to discover iconic Star Trek objects and outfits across the museum with our free trail—must close 8 September. Space, the final frontier...Have you ever wondered how the legendary science fiction franchise might’ve inspired the real-world science we use every day?Find out by picking up a free Star Trek Warp Trail guide when you arrive at the museum this summer and set off on a voyage to see legendary items from the Star Trek archives that have been beamed across our free galleries.Learn how the tools and technologies used within Star Trek connect to our collection—from revolutionary medicine and surviving in space, to instant communication and more—before ending the trail by getting to sit in the U.S.S. Discovery Captain’s Chair and browse the exclusive 60th anniversary retail range in our Star Trek shop.The Star Trek Warp Trail is free to visit. We’d recommend visitors book a free general admission ticket to the museum in advance due to expected high demand over the summer. Please be aware that the Warp Trail is only available during daytime opening hours and cannot be visited in the evenings before or after the film screenings. Please also note that the Warp Trail has stops across multiple free permanent galleries in the museum and is not an exhibition.Why Star Trek MattersStar Trek: The Original Series debuted 60 years ago this September. Its iconic depictions of Starfleet and its futuristic, spacefaring technology were not only drawing on developments in the Space Race in the 1960s but also went on to inspire a generation of scientists, including astronauts looking to explore the stars themselves. This free trail is designed for both existing fans and those who are brand new to the franchise alike, showing you how the gripping narratives and innovative technology brought to life in Star Trek link back to fascinating real-life stories in the world of science. Look for the Star Trek Warp Trail sign in the Front Concourse.
