CROSSWORDS is a quintet by alto saxophonist Ben van Gelder and tenor saxophonist Jasper Blom. The music alternates vertical, lyrical compositions by Van Gelder with horizontal and exploratory music by Blom. This whole is given space by the transparent instrumentation without chord instruments. You experience a unique fusion of styles.

Ben van Gelder is internationally known for his lyrical and personal approach to the alto saxophone. He is primarily active in the New York music scene. Jasper Blom received the Boy Edgar Prize in 2019, and his recent CD with the Metropole Orchestra was distinguished as 'Pick of the Week' by Downbeat. This evening brings two top musicians together on one stage.

The quintet further consists of three talented musicians. Trumpeter Hermon Mehari combines American jazz with Eritrean influences on his album *Asmara*. Bassist Phil Donkin, active in London, New York, and Berlin, won the Deutsche Jazz Preis 2026 with * Bring a Friend*. Drummer Wouter Kühne is a highly sought-after young talent in Dutch jazz. Together, they ensure an unforgettable evening.
