Theater Bellevue regularly organises public readings of new theatre scripts. No pretensions or distractions, purely the story, the wordplay and the vocal delivery of experienced actors in an intimate setting. A fine recipe for lovers of language and theatre scripts. This time: De Derde Vrouw by Collectief POT A celebration of women's love
In the stage adaptation and retranslation of De Derde Vrouw (Natalie Clifford Barney), one of the first Western books to write so explicitly about lesbian polyamory, you are taken into a taboo-breaking love affair between three women in 1926 Paris.
Natalie lives a truly wild life with partner Mimi. When Liane, Natalie’s old flame, re-enters Natalie’s life, a polyamorous relationship unfolds between the three. Lesbian, polyamorous representation at its best. It is steamy, it is horny, it is jealousy-inducing, it is French, it is detailed and intimate. It is a true ‘lesbian love triangel avant la lettre’. Because where there is sharing, there can be jealousy and fear of losing the relationship. How do these women deal with the freedom?
De Derde Vrouw is a celebration of women's love, with all its ups and downs. But above all, unapologetically present, in all the ugliness, horniness and tenderness that it brings with it.
