Jewellery, Adornment and Social Capital

What if jewellery functioned as language? What stories emerge from those who create, wear and observe adornments? Aligned with Heritage Journey 2026, this educational activity explores the social function of jewellery and ornament, visible in portraits by Baby and Guilherme de Almeida and in the work of Russian-born artist Moussia, held in the institution's collection. The session invites reflection on how jewellery and accessories relate to an individual's social, financial and cultural capital. Participants then create ornaments—brooches, earrings, necklaces and accessories—that connect with their own lived experiences and emotional histories, engaging in aesthetic appreciation and creative experimentation. Part of the official programme for Heritage Journey 2026, an initiative of São Paulo's State Cultural Heritage System (SISEP), a programme of the State Secretariat for Culture, Economy and Creative Industries, managed by Fundação Energia e Saneamento (FES).
