Dark Skies in the Texas Hill Country Presentation
About the event
This is a Save Texas Streams event. Check out SaveTexasStreams.org to learn more about us.
Dawn Davies is the Night Sky Program Manager for the Hill Country Alliance. She will speak on how the rapid growth along the I-35 corridor is eroding the natural darkness of Central Texas, and how it's impacting regional ecosystems, wildlife, and our connection to the night sky.
In this presentation, Dawn explores the critical importance of dark sky preservation, how light pollution affects native habitats and human health, and the practical, community-driven steps we can take to protect our regional heritage.
In her role as the Night Sky Program Manager for the Hill Country Alliance, she leads regional dark sky conservation initiatives across Central Texas. Since joining HCA in 2021, she has partnered with local communities, landowners, and civic leaders to implement outdoor lighting policy guidance, support night sky designations, and conduct place-based public outreach. With over 17 years of experience in informal environmental and science education, Dawn brings a community-focused approach to preserving natural darkness as a vital ecological, cultural, and quality-of-life resource. She holds a B.A. in Culture, Ecology, and Sustainability and actively collaborates with regional and national astronomy organizations to advance dark sky stewardship.
Come before 7 pm to order food and drink and to socialize. There is plenty of parking just south of 4th street.
