Grachtenfestival: Rosin Octet
About the event
The Rosin Octet performs two major works for string octet: Glière's String Octet Op. 5 and Mendelssohn's String Octet Op. 20. This young ensemble of 8 string players from 7 countries performs at the English Church in Amsterdam. Two major works for string octet The Rosin Octet performs two works written specifically for string octet. Reinhold Glière's String Octet Op. 5 has a clear structure with lyrical melodic lines and a classic four-movement design. Felix Mendelssohn's String Octet Op. 20 demands great precision and speed. The textures are tightly interwoven, and the finale recalls material from earlier movements. A young ensemble with an international background The Rosin Octet consists of 8 string players from 7 countries, all residing in the Netherlands. The ensemble focuses on the octet repertoire and collaborates with composers on new works for this instrumentation. The octet has performed in concert halls and at festivals in Europe and has won prizes at, among others, the Fontys Willem Twee Chamber Music Competition and the Toonzaal Talent Prize.
