The Ideas Open Mic: Odyssey, Art History & The Connection Recession
About the event
Hi everyone! I spoke to a few of you at the weekend about our upcoming 'Ideas Open Mic'. The first event is on Saturday 19 September in case you're interested. The idea is that it's a series of 'bar talks' with expert speakers, and then lots of time to meet new people. The first one even has Julia - who lots of you will know from this group - on the lineup.
Topics across the events will range from art history to The Odyssey, to contemporary culture and science.
This event is a pilot so would be very keen for feedback afterwards. Tickets are paid because speakers will ofc be paid for their time. Concessions available via hello@garethlewis.co.:)

London's think and drink night. Handpicked speakers on ideas worth hearing. Just might change how you think.
Join us at [The London Art Bar](https://londonartbar.com/ "https://londonartbar.com") for The Ideas Open Mic, London's think and drink night. Handpicked talks in bars where brilliant people share the ideas that excite them most. Think TED talk meets pub night.
Storytellers, academics, entrepreneurs and curious minds take to the stage for 15-20 minutes each. Every application is reviewed and selected based on quality, variety and fit, so the evening is always worth your time.
This edition, three speakers take the stage: Asa Williams - *The Real History of The Odyssey*. The world of the Mycenaeans, the Trojan War, the importance of Homer, and what monsters like Cyclops and the Sirens were actually based on. Julia Atticus - *Restoration or Collaboration?* A journey to Rome to look closely at ancient sculptures reworked by Renaissance and Baroque masters, and why what archaeologists call destruction might actually be a 2,000-year collaboration between sculptors. Gareth Lewis - *The Connection Recession*. Where the idea that we're all lonelier than ever came from, whether it holds up, and what we can do about it.
Come along, grab a drink, and leave having heard something that just might change how you think.
