Join us in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse for a lively exploration of how performance can illuminate — and even reshape — the way we edit Shakespeare. This event is part of our Research in Action series, where actors – with scripts in hand – perform scenes from early modern plays to explore a research question. This special Editing in Action workshop brings together theatre practitioners and the scholars of the New Variorum Shakespeare project (based at Texas A&M University), an ambitious long-term editorial initiative that gathers centuries of commentary, interpretation and stage history into one dynamic resource. Together, we’ll ask: how can live performance illuminate and even influence editorial approaches to a play? What happens when actors, directors, and editors collaborate — and the text itself becomes a space of creative negotiation?
