Introducing your newest north shore haunt for the best of jazz in Sydney, the Orpheum Jazz Lounge. Join us in November for the Steve Barry Hammond Trio, featuring Dr Steve Barry (Hammond organ), Harley Coleman (guitar) and Alex Young (drums). Fresh off the back of a new album recording, the trio brings together influences from soul jazz to Bossa nova around the unique earthen, charismatic tone of the Hammond organ, alongside fitting homages to Hammond greats Jimmy Smith, Larry Young & Shirley Scott. Set in the Lounge cinema, the original ballroom of the beautifully restored 1930’s art deco build, escape the week with live jazz on the third Thursday of every month. Be transported by the timeless romance of live jazz and the velvet glow of luxurious surrounds. The cocktails will be flowing, the neon lights bright, with a rotating lineup of exceptional local artists. Your standing jazz date. Third Thursday of every month. All tickets $35 ___ About Steve Barry: Hailed as “one of Australia’s most inventive and accomplished composer/improvisers” ( Loudmouth ), Dr Steve Barry is a pianist, organist, composer, educator, and the Program Leader for Jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His 2023 album In The Waves features international jazz luminaries Eric Harland (USA) and Will Vinson (USA/UK) and was praised by the Sydney Morning Herald as “...the finest instalment to date of the pianist’s bristling musical intelligence, rhythmic mutability, melodic flair and compositional gifts.” Barry's work traverses across the jazz, art music and musical theatre worlds, as well as long-standing cross-cultural partnerships in Japan and Vietnam.
