About the event

Named Penguin Eggs & Roots Music Canada's New Discovery of the Year!, Aleksi Campagne offers a contemporary, indie-folk take on the time-honoured fiddle-singing tradition. Born and raised in Montreal, Aleksi’s music blends folk songwriting with an edgy, multi-layered sound resulting from his unique combination of voice, violin and looping-effect pedals. Aleksi was awarded the Canadian Folk Music Award for francophone artist of the year for his debut album in April 2024

Claire Turnbull is a flutist and singer-songwriter from the Eastern Townships of Quebec, where the region’s rich Irish, French Canadian and Scottish cultural heritage inspire her music. A dynamic performer, she has been playing the flute since the age of two and has built a versatile career spanning classical, folk and traditional music, all with the distinctive voice of her silver flute. Alongside guitarist and collaborator, Zach Bachand, her performances feature arrangements of traditional, Irish, Scottish and French tunes and original songs, blending her classical training with the rich storytelling traditions of folk and trad music. She has studied with internationally renowned flutists, notably James Galway and William Bennett. She holds a Bachelor of Music from McGill University and completed graduate studies at the Université de Montreal and the Longy School of Music. Claire has performed with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and bands, appearing at festivals and concert series across Canada, including a recent appearance as a featured soloist with Orchestre Fidelio.

Ryan Young is a Scottish fiddle player working within the traditional music of Scotland. His playing is noted for its distinctive tone and phrasing, with an approach that places melody and expression at the centre of the music. He first came to wider attention with his debut album, produced by four-time GRAMMY winner Jesse Lewis (Béla Fleck, Yo-Yo Ma), establishing the foundations of a career that has since developed an international reach. He has toured extensively across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia, and is recognised for a style that draws on both Scottish and Irish traditions.

Young is a multi award-winning artist and has received multiple nominations at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, including back-to-back nominations in recent years and most recently for Musician of the Year in 2025. He has also been a finalist in both the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards and the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year.

His recordings have received consistent critical attention, with  The Scotsman  awarding five-star reviews across his work. In live performance, he has been described as “a force of nature.”

Young’s third studio album, due for release in May 2026, is produced by and features Martin Hayes. Recorded with engineer Patrick Phillips (The Gloaming, Peter Gabriel), the album includes contributions from Stuart McCallum (The Breath, Cinematic Orchestra) and Louis Campbell (Sam Lee, Sam Sweeney).
