Presented as the Opening of the 81st ACA National Arts Festival, this performance features the episode called “Takenoko Hori (Bamboo Shoots)” from “Honchō Nijūshikō (The Japanese Twenty-Four Examples of Filial Piety).” Featuring dynamic fights in the snow and a succession of surprising revelations, this rarely performed hidden gem of a scene will be staged for the first time in 27 years. What at first seems to be a tale of filial devotion set in a snowbound mountain village suddenly unfolds into a powerful historical drama, as the characters' motives and intrigues intertwine. We invite you to enjoy its astonishing twists and turns, along with the distinctive visual beauty of the Kabuki stage.
