Tech Talk: Rethinking the Chat Interface: From Linear Traces to Canvas Trees Speaker: Arvindra Sehmi (Snowflake) Abstract: Every mainstream chat interface, from ChatGPT and Claude to embedded site bots, makes the same structural assumption that a conversation is a linear list. You send a prompt, the model responds, and everything appends to a continuous trace. While this scrolling transcript has become the default, it is often inconvenient and ill-suited for complex, non-linear work. This talk introduces a different paradigm by moving conversations onto an infinite canvas as a tree of interactive nodes where branching is a first-class gesture rather than an inconvenient thread restart. We will dive into Chat Tree, a React component hosted on a custom canvas built with Python Reflex,, and also in a Streamlit component.
