Screenwriter of the hit series "Succession" Will Arbery and one of Europe's most uncompromising filmmakers, director Romain Gavras, present an audacious satire on the contemporary world of celebrities, politics and ecology. "The Rich and the Dead" dazzles with a star-studded cast – the film features Golden Globe-nominated star of "Furiosa" Anya Taylor-Joy, known from the hit "Captain America" Chris Evans, Oscar-nominated Salma Hayek, Oscar-nominated John Malkovich, French cinema icon Vincent Cassel and one of the most influential artists of the music scene Charlie XCX.
Production is led by, among others, Giorgos Karnavas, creator of the Palme d'Or-winning and Oscar-nominated "Triangle of Sadness" and Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska - creator of the Golden Lions-winning "Silent Twins" at Gdynia. The film had its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.
During a luxurious charity gala, the biggest names from the world of film, business and media meet. Among them is action cinema star Mike Tyler (Chris Evans), who is trying to rebuild his image, and billionaire Ben Bracken (Vincent Cassel) with his wife (Salma Hayek), promoting a controversial mining venture. Unexpectedly, however, the atmosphere changes by 180 degrees when Joan (Anya Taylor-Joy) – a charismatic leader of a group of armed activists – takes the stage.
From that point on, the luxurious banquet will transform into a game of life and death, during which celebrities will be forced to confront not only the fanaticism of their attackers, but also their own hypocrisy and selfishness.
