Git Demystified: Understand It, Don't Just Memorise It
About the event
[French version below]
Most of us use Git the same way: we memorise a handful of commands, type them in the right order, and hope nothing goes wrong. 🤞 When it does, we paste the error into Claude or ChatGPT, run whatever comes back, and still don't know what just happened to our project. This workshop is about ending that.
We'll go through the basics of Git for code projects with one goal in mind: understanding *why* Git behaves the way it does, so you can reason about it instead of reproducing a recipe. Once the logic is understood, commands stop being magic words and become obvious choices. AI assistants can give you the command, but only you can decide whether it's the right one for your project.
🎒 What you'll take home:
• A clear picture of what a commit, a branch, and the working tree actually are • Why Git says what it says (and what to do about it) when things go sideways • Enough confidence to use Git on your own projects without a cheat sheet open in the next tab
👩💻 Who this is for: anyone writing code, from beginners who have never typed `git init` to people who use Git daily but still feel a little nervous. No prior Git experience needed.
💻 Bring: A laptop with Git installed ([https://git-scm.com/downloads](https://git-scm.com/downloads)) and a code editor. We'll check that it works together at the start.
