Fruition - A Remembrance of Drumming & Dance
About the event
Fruition - A Remembrance of Drumming & Dance Saturday 3 October, 16h00 (arrive from 15h00) Fruition House, 388 Albert Road, Woodstock Hosted by Amy Nelson, Ancois Nelson and Chrisna van Niekerk The InvitationThere's a deep remembering in all of us. You feel it in your core. A yearning to gather. To feel the warm sting of your hands beating on a drum. The joy that floods your body as your rhythm syncs with the group. The urge to shout, to howl, to sing, to dance, to jump and smile. There is a deep understanding that this feeds your soul. When we're in that space, we're performing an ancient practice, and the veil is thin between us and our ancestors. This is more than a gathering. Our bodies understand: this is a ritualistic ceremony that works on us on many levels. The eveningWe begin with a ceremony of grounding and honouring. We create a safe ceremonial container and space for our ancestors. For those who choose to, there will be a conscious consumption in ceremony and gathering. Details are below. After the ceremony, we'll be guided into our drumming circle by Chrisna. Simple rhythms anyone can hold, building into a collective sound. As the night deepens, we move into conscious dance, letting the rhythm move through our bodies in whatever way feels true.We close lying down with a restorative sound journey, and your body settles and receives. Your ParticipationThere's no pressure to take anything. Many come for the ceremony, drumming, and dance alone, and that is complete and whole. If you're interested in exploring a more active role in the ceremony, we work with conscious consumption offerings. These are available to choose when you book your ticket. What to BringClothes you can move and sweat inA blanket and cushion for lying downA towelShoes come off at the door About drums: You can borrow a friend's drum, bring your own, or rent one with your ticket. The spaceThis is a queer, neurodivergent-supportive, nonmonogamous-affirming space for minority-group folks and allies. Consent-centred and trauma-informed. You can step out, change how you're taking part, or rest at any point. No performance. No wrong way to sound. The venue is not wheelchair accessible, and we're devastatingly aware of this gap. If you have access needs we haven't thought of, message us and we'll figure it out together. There's no alcohol. Food and drinkWe'll have an alcohol free botanical bar and light snacks on the night, so you can stay nourished and grounded.
Your hosts Amy & Ancois Nelson | Fruition House and Shamanic Therapy Amy and Ancois hold Fruition House, a home in Woodstock for the communities that gather here, among them the Psychedelic Society of South Africa, alongside Amy's private practice, Shamanic Therapy, which works at the meeting of sexuality, spirituality, trauma and the many ways we love and relate. Together they run the Shamanic Temple Nights, Queer Spirit Cape Town, and Beyond Monogamy SA. They're trained in psycare support, consent-forward and trauma-informed practice, and work toward genuine inclusion. Chrisna van Niekerk | Earth & Echo Chrisna is a rhythm and sound facilitator who has spent over two decades inviting people back into their innate musical expression. Through drumming, voice, movement and play, she creates spaces where we can move beyond performance and inhibition, listen to our bodies, and let our own expression become part of a living collective sound.
