Kicking the Bucket Listening Club
About the event
For anyone who plans to grow older. The Kicking the Bucket Listening Club returns to Austin Public Library this fall with a one-of-a-kind community experience at the Yarborough Branch - an 8-week series pairing storytelling, optional basket weaving, and conversation about the questions we'll all face someday. It's a book club for your ears. Each Thursday evening, attendees gather to listen together to a chapter of *Kicking the Bucket* - an audio dramedy following Dolores and Howard, two ride-or-die octogenarians determined to exit life on their own terms before their kids can say "nursing home." Bring a craft or try your hand at basket weaving with artist Melissa Knight, then join Occupational Therapists and Certified End-of-Life Doulas Michelle McCarty and Melissa Saffron of ReInventing Independence for a guided conversation inspired by the story. Together, we'll explore caregiving, medical decision-making, memory loss, independence, legacy, planning ahead, and what it means to live according to our values. Funny, heartfelt, and surprisingly relevant, *Kicking the Bucket* opens the door to conversations most of us would rather avoid - and makes them a little easier to have together. Designed as a full-series experience, but drop-ins are always welcome - we'll catch you up. Come to one, a few, or all eight. Free and open to the public.
