🎉 Celebrate Our Founder’s Birthday on the Mats!

October 14 is the birthday of Hiroki Takaya, Founder and Head Instructor of Advantage & Yamato Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy!

This year is especially meaningful as it’s his first birthday as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt!

Hiroki is also the manager of Chit-Chat, a local community group that helps people connect and make friends.

To celebrate his birthday, Hiroki is inviting everyone to join his regular beginner-friendly No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu class!

This is a structured Jiu-Jitsu class focused on learning techniques, not just a birthday party!

Hiroki will teach:

• Basic body movements • Beginner-friendly No-Gi techniques • Partner drills and grappling fundamentals • Safe, controlled positional training

No experience needed! Beginners and experienced practitioners are welcome!

No Gi (uniform) is required. Just wear comfortable athletic clothes!

Regular academy members will also be attending, so the actual class size may be larger than the Meetup RSVP count.

Classes are taught in English, with Japanese support available.

💰 Fees & Membership

• First trial: FREE (eligible local residents only) • Drop-in: $40 CAD • Regular membership: $125 CAD/month • Student membership: $100 CAD/month (valid student ID required)

⚠️ Local Residents Only — Free Trial Policy

The free trial is available only to local residents who plan to stay in the Vancouver area for at least two months.

Visitors and anyone planning to leave Vancouver within two months must pay the $40 CAD drop-in fee, even for their first class.

🎒 What to Bring

• Comfortable workout clothes • Water • A towel • A positive attitude!

For safety, please avoid clothing with zippers or metal parts and remove jewelry before training.

🥋 About Hiroki Takaya

Hiroki Takaya is a Japanese Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, the Founder / Head Instructor of Advantage & Yamato Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, and the manager of Chit-Chat, a local community group.

He earned his black belt in June 2026 and has taught Gi and No-Gi classes at multiple gyms throughout the Vancouver area.

His goal is to create a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment where everyone can learn and enjoy Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Hirokiは、人と人がつながり、友達を作るきっかけを提供する地域コミュニティ「Chit-Chat」のマネージャーとしても活動しています。

今回は誕生日を記念して、通常の初心者向けNo-Giクラスに皆さんをご招待します！

誕生日パーティーではなく、通常どおり技術指導を中心とした柔術クラスです！

初回無料体験は、今後2ヶ月以上バンクーバー周辺に滞在予定の現地在住者のみが対象です。

旅行者や2ヶ月以内にバンクーバーを離れる予定の方は、初回でもドロップイン料金 $40 CAD がかかります。
