SEMINAR: GEOPOLITICS IN ART: COLLECTIONS AND RECONFIGURATIONS OF THE ARTISTIC FIELD - 12 to 15 August

This seminar brings together art history, criticism, curating, and geopolitics to examine collections and exhibitions as active instruments in the formation of canons, memories, and hierarchies shaped by historical contexts and political tensions. Organized across four thematic panels, the program investigates collection building, institutional trajectories, modes of art writing, and postwar exhibition circulation through case studies and theoretical inquiry. The event addresses political and epistemological responsibilities embedded in canon formation and art historiography, mapping gaps, absences, and ruptures. It advances curatorial and institutional practices grounded in democracy, transparency, and historical awareness—essential for situating contemporary art within its historical roots and geopolitical dimensions.
