SlowRead: Degrowth x2
About the event
📚 SlowRead: Degrowth x2 Join us on 24 October to read Exploring Degrowth: A Critical Guide by Vincent Liegey and Anitra Nelson, and Dialogues for Degrowth: Transdisciplinary Perspectives for Sustainable and Inclusive Futures, edited by Ksenija Hanaček, Marula Tsagkari and Brototi Roy. Why two books? Because we want to explore degrowth from different perspectives and make it interesting for everyone, whether you are a degrowth expert or have never heard the term before. Exploring Degrowth offers a great introduction to the degrowth movement and explores its practices and strategies, while Dialogues for Degrowth, with its contributions from young feminist academics, dives deeper into the interconnections with topics such as fashion, queerness, dance or Blue Degrowth. SlowRead is not your usual book club invitation. It's a no-prep, no-deadline zone of arpentage where we explore the book individually in parts (on the spot) and then bring everything together in conversation as a group. ⏰ Schedule: 09:45 – Arrive, grab a tea, and choose a chapter 10:00 – Read slowly, surrounded by fellow readers 11:00 – Share insights and join the discussion 📍Sabbar, Rue de Russie 10, 1060 Saint-Gilles, Belgium 🍿 Extras: Bring your book if you have it. If not, we can share a chapter on-site or send it before the event (having an e-reader or laptop helps but not obligatory). 🐌 This event is organised by GrowthKills, campaign supported by Scientist Rebellion. We challenge the ideology of infinite growth on a finite planet. Website: https://growthkills.org Instagram: @growthkills Email: slowread@growthkills.org
