Fake Spirituality: Finding Yourself
About the event
Fake Spirituality: Finding Yourself
We live in the age of gurus. Spirituality is in high demand. The offers are wide and varied - meditation groups, circles, spiritual retreats. Many of these initiatives are genuinely supportive. We come to a deeper understanding of who we are, find new friends, and clarity in confusing times. At the same time, there is growth of fake spirituality. A life coach promoting authenticity turns out to be a fraud. A group advertising a new way to connect to yourself becomes a hotspot for inflated egos. A course promising a curated self-discovery journey ends up being AI slop. The phenomenon of fake spirituality is old, but it is also specific to our time. In this Philosophy Salon, we will explore it openly and sincerely, and see if we can help each other to find some good ways to sort out the real from fake.
