About the event

Julieta Gil is a Mexico City–based artist working across digital media, moving image, installation, performance, and sculpture. Using photogrammetry, computer simulation and physical fabrication, she examines how memory, materiality and power are embedded in monuments, archives and public space. Blending documentary and fictional strategies, she creates counter-archives that move between physical and digital realms, often embracing glitches and unstable forms of representation to question how official histories are produced, preserved and reimagined. Pita Arreola is Head of Programmes at arebyte Digital Art Centre, where she leads the organisation's artistic programme. With over fifteen years of experience in the arts, she has worked closely with artists and creatives to develop experimental projects that critically examine the social and cultural impact of emerging technologies. She is also Co-Founder of Off Site Project, a curatorial platform dedicated to supporting emerging talent in digital and media art. Julieta Gil looks at public space in its many forms, from streets and monuments to digital and archival spaces. In this in-conversation event with Pita Arreola, Head of Programmes at arebyte Gallery, Gil further ruminates on her practice and interests within photogrammetry, 3d space, and civic contentions. This free, drop-in event will take place in Gallery 99 of the Photography Centre, amongst Gil’s display. No booking required.
