Galeria Luis Maluf participates in the fifth edition of SP-Arte Rotas from 26 to 30 August at ARCA in São Paulo, with general curatorship by Bernardo Mosqueira. The "Sinestesia" project showcases women artists including Fernanda Pompermayer, Karola Braga, Giulia Bianchi and Shizue Sakamoto, each exploring perception through touch, scent, taste and colour. Synesthesia serves as the conceptual framework: an aesthetic experience where different sensory perceptions intersect and deepen the relationship between artwork and viewer beyond its neurological definition. Fernanda Pompermayer's ceramic sculptures engage perception through material. She constructs pieces via fragment collage, blending natural and synthetic, figurative and abstract, sacred and profane into forms evoking minerals, fossils, corals and imaginary artifacts. Drawing on geological processes, Pompermayer layers pigmented clay using the nerikomi technique, creating visually complex surfaces where controlled form coexists with collapse risk, prompting tactile impulse. Her first solo exhibition opens 22 August at Galeria Luis Maluf in Barra Funda, synthesizing distinct phases of recent work. Karola Braga shifts perception toward the olfactory realm. As an olfactory researcher, she employs fragrances, resins, smoke and aromatic matter to investigate what endures and dissipates, activating memory, affect and narrative. Scent, a volatile ephemeral element, becomes poetic and political language. In 2024, she presented "Sfumato" at Desert X AlUla in Saudi Arabia: over 11 thousand incense and myrrh sticks activated by wind, conceived as sensory tribute to the ancient Incense Route. In 2025, she won the Experimental category at Art and Olfaction Awards, international recognition for olfactory creation as art, and participated in the 13th Mercosul Biennial. March 2026 brought her nomination as Art Senses Artist of the Year by Therme Art Program for "Bloom of the Night", research treating scent as spatial organizer, proposing smell structure perception before vision engages. Braga studies Atlantic Forest scents and will develop this project over six months mentored by Alexandra Murakami. Giulia Bianchi, newly represented by Luis Maluf, creates paintings evoking body and food sensations: fruits, flowers, seeds and organic forms appear in compositions between figuration and abstraction, suggesting flavour, aroma, texture and temperature. From September through December 2025, she showed at Sesc Casa Verde a mural project focused on Brazilian culinary ingredients, extending painting beyond visual observation alone to explore food's invisible dimension. In Shizue Sakamoto's paintings, colour becomes contemplative space: trained as a violinist, the artist constructs surfaces where rhythm, interval, light and silence form visual composition. Achieving her characteristic gradient effect requires layering up to 50 colours per work, creating transitions that continuously reverberate with viewers. Varying scales reorganize spatial relationship and invite almost meditative engagement. Her work brings chromatic research near minimalist formal economy while resisting closed discursive framing.
