This Sunday we'll walk from Andenne to Huy, following the hills above the Meuse. Feel free to join us!
The route starts with a climb out of the valley and then takes us through a mix of forests, fields, old quarry landscapes and a handful of quiet villages. It's a part of Wallonia that doesn't get as much attention as the Ardennes, but it offers surprisingly varied scenery and plenty of views along the way. We'll eventually make our way down into Huy, with the Citadel overlooking the town, and there should be time afterwards to sit down somewhere for a drink before heading home. (#CopyrightKarin, and much more of the below to be fair)
The forecast currently looks quite decent for hiking: cool autumn temperatures, plenty of clouds and only a limited chance of rain. Please note that bringing a rain jacket is never a bad idea in Belgium. Some might even consider it essential equipment. Some sections may also be muddy if we've had rain in the preceding days.
We'll aim for a relaxed but steady pace of around 4.5 km/h. Most of the route follows unpaved paths and forest tracks, with a few climbs here and there, but nothing too technical.
As always, if you sign up, please do so with the intention of actually joining. Places are limited, and last-minute cancellations often prevent someone else from joining.
I've walked this route before, though not as the organiser. So while the route looks good on my screen, there's always a chance we'll encounter an unexpected detour or end up walking a little farther than advertised. But don't worry, getting lost permanently is not part of the plan.
