Workshop “Your Stress Has a Name”
About the event
Brand Berghouwer, psychosocial therapist and trans herself, is giving a workshop on minority stress at the Q-Factory Amsterdam. You will discover how anti-LGBTIQ+ prejudices affect your body and mind and do short exercises. Trans and intersex people are especially welcome. What is minority stress? Minority stress is the pressure that arises when anti-LGBTIQ+ prejudices from society impact you. Think of the moment you hesitate before sharing something about yourself, or the energy it takes to explain who you are time and time again. That stress is not always visible, but you definitely feel its effects — in your body and in your mind. What do you do during the workshop? In the workshop, you explore how minority stress arises and what it does to you. You learn to recognize the mechanisms that perpetuate this form of stress. Additionally, you do a number of short exercises to deal more consciously with what you are experiencing. The workshop is led by Brand Berghouwer, a psychosocial therapist and trans person himself. Who is this intended for? The workshop is open to all LGBTQ+ people. Trans and intersex people are especially welcome. Are you interested? When registering, please indicate what you would like to learn or what you bring from your own experience.
