October book meetup: The Growth of the Soil

For October, our theme is "harvest," and we'll be reading The Growth of the Soil (*Markens grøde*) by Knut Hamsun.

This novel is a classic of Norwegian literature, and is generally considered to be the primary reason that Hamsun was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1920. In later years, Hamsun became a controversial author due to his support of the Nazi party during WWII. Our discussion of his book can include the literary merits of the work itself as well as the larger intellectual and political discourse that surrounds it.

The meetup will take place at the main Deichman library in Bjørvika. If anyone is interested, we can continue the conversation afterward over drinks at a nearby pub!
