Workshop | Art, Play, and Participation

This workshop explores different connections between art, education, and the culture of play. Starting from the educational toys of 19th-century kindergartens and their influence on 20th-century art, it discusses the contributions of artists, architects, and educators to the creation of playful spaces, objects, and experiences. Over the sessions, the history of playgrounds, the work of artists and architects who explored play as a field of research and creation, and the politicization of play in the cultural movements of the 1960s and 1970s will be presented, with special attention to the Latin American context. All sessions include a collective creative experience proposed and led by artist Gui Teixeira. Advance registration is required.
