⛴️ Vallejo Day Trip -- Via Ferry
☀️ Enjoy one of the last warm days of fall on the water with a scenic ferry ride to Vallejo. On this boat ride we'll pass Alcatraz, Angel Island, San Quentin, the East Brother Light Station, and head up the Napa River past the Mare Island Naval Shipyard before docking at the Vallejo Ferry Terminal. This day trip will include:
☆ Outdoor lunch on the waterfront at the Mare Island Brewing Co. ☆ A short walk into Old Town to visit quirky shops and/or the Naval & Historical Museum.
▪︎ PLEASE be prepared to give a $5 donation at the Naval Museum. ▪︎ Meet at 10:15 am sharp at GATE E -- SF Ferry Bldg Terminal ▪︎ You MUST have round-trip fare pre-loaded on your Clipper card, or arrive early and add money to your card at the kiosk inside the Ferry Bldg ▪︎ Clipper Card Fare: $10 each way ADULTS $5 each way SENIORS ▪︎ Brewery Menu: https://www.mareislandbrewingco.com/ferry-taproom-menu ▪︎ We'll return to the terminal in time to catch the 4:10 ferry back to SF (arriving at 5:10.) ▪︎ The ferry ride is 1 hour each way -- enough time to get SEASICK. Bring BONINE if you'll need it. ▪︎ The temp will be nice in Vallejo. Remember to bring a hat. Also, bring a WARM LAYER for the time on the water. ▪︎ PLEASE don't be a no-show. If your plans change, remember to update your RSVP prior to the event. ▪︎ A late cancelation will count as a no-show.
🍒 DID YOU KNOW? Vallejo was founded in 1851 and served as the capital of California from 1852 to 1853, when the state government relocated to neighboring Benicia — named in honor of General Vallejo's wife, Francisca Benicia Carrillo de Vallejo. The following year, in 1854, authorities established the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, which would go on to define Vallejo's economy until the turn of the 21st century.
The last nuclear-powered submarine built at the Mare Island Shipyard was the USS Drum. It was launched on May 23, 1970, and is the last submarine ever constructed in the state of California. After the yard ceased constructing new nuclear submarines, it continued to overhaul, refuel, and repair the nuclear fleet until the shipyard officially closed on March 31, 1996.
