Ross Devenish: A Life in Pictures
About the event
Ross Devenish - A Life in Film Fascinated by the discovery of some reels of war footage in his father’s study, as a small boy Devenish abandoned his desire to be an engine driver in favour of becoming a filmmaker. After studying film in London, he was engaged in documentaries and current affairs, working in several war zones – Yemen, Borneo, the Congo and Viet Nam – as well as making a film about the plight of the North American Indians (narrated by Marlon Brando). When he saw “Boesman and Lena” at the Royal Court in London, he persuaded Athol Fugard to let him film it, which led to them making three films together. He then went on to a career in television drama in the UK. The programme will include extracts from Devenish’s work, a question-and-answer session, followed by a screening of “Boesman and Lena”.
