In this workshop, we reimagine how we imagine! Using sci-fi/fantasy world-building tools, we explore creating worlds that challenge, expand, and revolutionize the stories we tell, and the world we live in. -- Adonis Critter King is a Black, queer, trans and non-binary, interdisciplinary artist, spoken word poet, theatre creator, writer, director, producer, dramaturg, and educator. Their arts practice is rooted in social justice as daily practice, revolution as habit that starts in the home, and QT2BIMPOC safe space curation. Their poetic works explore the horrors of the everyday, the unsettling nature of becoming, and the joys and complexities of mad and disabled QT2MBIPOC life. Their theatrical works blend afro-surrealism, poetry, music, and immersive experience to explore the difficult choices we must make to liberate our futures. -- This class is generously funded by the Canadian Poetry Fund a local donor-advised fund which fosters accessible public educational outreach for poetry and other forms of creative writing through the services of the Vancouver Public Library. -- This program is presented in partnership with Room Magazine as part of their Read the Room Festival a celebration of 50 years of Room Magazine. -- Accessibility: VPL is committed to making our programs accessible for all.
