PMs for Good Roundtable: Applying PMO Principles to CBOs and Social Enterprises
About the event
PMs for Good Book Club & Roundtable Discussion (Back in-person)
Wednesday, September 23 Book: *Leading Successful PMOs: How to Build the Best Project Management Office for Your Business* by Peter Taylor
6:00 PM – Networking & Light Bites 6:30 PM – Book Club & Roundtable Discussion
Join fellow mission-driven project leaders for an interactive discussion exploring how the principles from Peter Taylor's book can be adapted to nonprofits, NGOs, social enterprises, and other community-based organizations. Many organizations don't have the resources to establish a formal PMO, yet still need effective project governance, prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration. Together we'll discuss:
• How can PMO principles be applied in organizations with limited staffing and resources? • What does a "PMO culture" look like without a dedicated PMO? • How can project management practices strengthen mission impact and organizational sustainability? • What lightweight governance structures, tools, and habits work best for small and midsize nonprofits? • What barriers do community-based organizations face, and how can they overcome them?
Discussion Format
• Brief discussion of key takeaways from the book • Interactive roundtable conversation • Collaborative brainstorming focused on practical approaches for mission-driven organizations
Interested in Contributing to the Field?
Following the discussion, participants who would like to continue the conversation are invited to join the new PMO Culture for Nonprofits Committee. Together, we'll explore opportunities to collaborate on a white paper or co-authored article focused on building project management culture and practical PMO approaches for resource-constrained, mission-driven organizations. Whether you have a formal PMO, wear multiple hats, or simply want to improve how projects get done, we'd love to have you join us. Light bites (vegetables, charcuterie, and refreshments) will be provided.
