Members' Tour: From Opulent Gold and Red to Subversive Pink and White
Oct7
Wednesday, October 7, 202615:30 – 17:00About the event
In the 18th century, a new taste emerged, away from the masculine grandeur and opulence of the Baroque style. Favoured by Madame de Pompadour and later by Queen Marie-Antoinette and Catherine the Great of Russia, pastel colours, soft textiles, delicate ornaments and scrolling curves became known as "The French Style" or disparagingly as "Rococo". Join our V&A guide to discover how women rejected excessive luxuriance and how they imposed a playful style that became a symbol of freedom. Tour end times are approximate and may vary to what is shown. Optional light refreshments will be served after the tour in the Members' Restaurant. Members only.
