Join us in THE READING ROOM, featuring "Moth Boy" by Peihwen J. Tai, on September 28th, 2026 from 7-9pm!
The Reading Room is a quarterly cold-reading series by First Born Theatre where a new Canadian play will be read out loud by a cast of actors for the first time. No rehearsal. No second takes. You’ll watch as a cast of Toronto actors crack open a script and get to know it in real time alongside the play’s first audience.
Moth Boy is a magical realist story spanning 13 years about emotional negligence in an Asian-Canadian household in Vancouver. After a tragedy befalls his best friend Greta, Ikari falls into a catatonic depression and subsequently metamorphoses into a moth. Ikari’s mother must work to free him, while navigating her struggling law career and a tumultuous entanglement with Greta’s mother, Amber.
