Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust:As one of South Africa's longest running sexual violence organizations, the team of specialists and volunteers offers free confidential counseling and reporting assistance to any and all survivors. Their advocacy teams educate communities on destigmatization and pressure the national government to see justice - from the clinics to the courts. With locations across the Mothercity, their community mobilization can act fast in a crisis, maintaining a 24-hour hotline in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa. The free sanitary kits and psycological first-aid provided to survivors is often their first step in the road to recovery.
Philisa Abafazi Bethu:Based in Steenberg, this Pan-African & LGBT-friendly centre has served communities facing some of the highest levels of gang violence in the country since 2008. What started as a small team in neighbouring Lavender Hill has since grown into an internationally acclaimed network of social workers, activists and volunteers that protect vulnerable women, children and the elderly - across the country. Their services include emergency shelter for families, counselling, skills training, early childhood care, after school care, senior citizen feeding schemes, a food garden, an awareness program for men and a life-saving babysaver option for hopeless mothers. Their search and rescue team is highly trained and works closely with authorities to save lives.
