At the age of 24, pianist Aidan Mikdad has already built an impressive track record. At fifteen, he was awarded the Concertgebouw Young Talent Award. In July 2023, he received 'The Queen's recommendation for excellence' during his graduation ceremony at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he obtained his Master's degree cum laude. He earned his Bachelor's degree under Naum Grubert at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with the highest possible distinction. He made a strong impression at competitions, but above all, he made a profound impact during his concerts.
Chopin's Sonata No. 3 and Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata
Frédéric Chopin became famous primarily for his short piano pieces: nocturnes, mazurkas, polonaises, etudes, and waltzes, which he composed for the Parisian salons. He did not strive for the grand gesture of Franz Liszt, for example; Chopin was known as the poet among piano composers: his music is intimate and personal. The monumental Third Sonata is of a different order. It is a highlight of Romantic piano music: grand yet poetic, lyrical, and a touch melancholic. Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata is also a true piano monument. Technically demanding and full of emotional outbursts, it keeps the pianist and the listener on the edge of their seats.
