Richard Dawkins | 50 Years of the Selfish Gene

Richard Dawkins, one of the most consequential scientific communicators of our time, returns to Australia and New Zealand this November to celebrate fifty years since The Selfish Gene first transformed the scientific landscape. Since its publication in 1976, The Selfish Gene has remained a cornerstone of modern science, introducing the gene-centred view of evolution and coining the now-ubiquitous concept of the ‘meme’. In this exclusive live event, Dawkins reflects on the book’s revolutionary legacy, explores what fifty years of science have confirmed or challenged, and explains why its core questions are more urgent today than ever before.
