Exhibition 'Monestir de Pedralbes. Els tresors del monestir'

Ten years after its inauguration in 2005, the exhibition Monestir de Pedralbes. Els tresors del monestir presents, following an extensive and meticulous programme of conservation and restoration, a unique collection of artworks, furniture, and liturgical and secular objects from the monastery’s treasury. These pieces were gathered over the centuries by the community of Poor Clare nuns of the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes. Donations formed part of the dowry that novices brought with them upon entering the monastery and later bequeathed after their death. The fact that Queen Elisenda lived in a palace adjoining the monastery, on the site now occupied by the Queen’s Hall, encouraged the arrival of novices of noble origin, who contributed a rich heritage and enhanced various spaces within the complex through their gifts to the community. Housed in the former dormitory—transformed into a monumental exhibition space through the works carried out to host the religious painting exhibition from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection (1993–2004)—the new exhibition prioritises the architectural space over exhibition design. It presents four main sections that group the works by historical period.
