About the event

We will read and respond to poetry in excruciating detail. It's fun, I promise!

We'll take turns picking a poem for us to read and respond to. Please come with at least one poem that you are ready to share—whether your own or one from another author. If you have nothing to share, feel free to listen in.

We will read each poem aloud, twice if time permits. If desired, the poem can be shared through [Proton Drive](https://drive.proton.me/urls/05PJ0BMSSW#es3lBdtVcr3y) to be shown on a laptop screen or viewed on smartphones. Paper copies can also be distributed, or feel free to just read your poem aloud---whatever you prefer works for us!

*Seattle Poetry Meetup is a proud founding member of the [Western Washington Poets Network](https://www.westernwashingtonpoetsnetwork.org/) - check out their database of open mics and critique groups in the area.*

VENUE

We'll start at the picnic tables east of the Community Center on the east side of Green Lake Park. We'll probably go to Starbucks or some other restaurant nearby since it will be cold out.

TRANSIT

Bus: your best options are probably the 45 and 62 which pass immediately east of the park and require basically no walk; the E line runs just west of the park and though it requires a bit of a hike it's pleasant walking along a paved path. See also [Seattle Transit Map](https://seattletransitmap.com/). Light Rail: Roosevelt Station on the 1-Line is a 15 minute walk away coming from the east. See also [Seattle Transit Map](https://seattletransitmap.com/). Cycling: Green Lake Park is encircled by a separated bike path which connects via Greenlake Dr. N to the northwest, NE Ravenna Blvd to the east, and Green Lake Way N to the south. See also the official [Bike Map](https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/bike-program/bike-web-map). Car: SR-99 is immediately west, and Green Lake Park and Ride and I-5 are also close to the east.

PARKING

There is parking at the park, but in practice rarely is available. Free street parking can be generally found not far from the park. Many shops and restaurants in the neighborhood also have associated parking for patrons, and of course there's the Roosevelt Park and Ride.

PROTON DRIVE

We're using Proton Drive to share files---no account required. Click here to access: [https://drive.proton.me/urls/05PJ0BMSSW#es3lBdtVcr3y](https://drive.proton.me/urls/05PJ0BMSSW#es3lBdtVcr3y)

Click "Upload" and then "Upload File" to upload an existing file, or "Create" and then "New Document" to create a new document from scratch.

It's helpful if people organize files for particular event into their own folder with format YYYY-MM-DD for example "2025-09-16" for the September 16th, 2025 meetup.

Files left on the drive will become part of the SPM Archive. If you don't want this, delete your files after the meetup. We may relocate to the grass or elsewhere nearby depending on people's preference.
