9 to 5
About the event
Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin play three secretaries who have had enough and take revenge on their sexist boss in this iconic 1980 comedy. Showing at Lab111 in Amsterdam. A classic about workplace relationships
The 1980 film 9 to 5 follows three women working together in a large office. Judy (Jane Fonda) starts as an inexperienced new employee, while Violet (Lily Tomlin) has been working hard for years but is constantly passed over for promotion. Doralee (Dolly Parton) is the boss's secretary, and everyone gossips about her. Together, they discover they have the same problem: their sexist boss Franklin.
Revenge fantasies and unexpected twists
After an evening together, during which the necessary fantasies about Franklin are reviewed, the story takes a funny and unexpected turn. The three women take matters into their own hands and put their boss in his place. The film combines humor with a sharp look at inequality in the workplace, and that makes it still relatable today.
