🎶 RJAM Faculty Artist Series: Jeff Denson, Bass -- SFCM
🔆 SFCM's Faculty Artist Series brings their world-class faculty to the stage each season in performances of personally curated repertoire — a chance for the Bay Area community to experience the musical artistry behind the teaching.
Jeff Denson is an award-winning bassist, vocalist, and composer whose work bridges jazz, contemporary classical, and improvisation. He's known for integrating voice and bass within both composed and improvised settings, drawing on jazz tradition alongside 20th- and 21st-century classical practices. He has released 16 albums as a leader or co-leader and has toured extensively across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Japan, performing at some of the world's most prestigious venues and festivals both with his own groups and alongside some of jazz's finest artists. Denson has appeared 19 times in the DownBeat Magazine Critics and Rising Star Critics Polls across the Bassist, Electric Bassist, and Male Vocalist categories, earning First Place in the Rising Star category for Electric Bass in 2021. His work has been reviewed in The New York Times and The Washington Post, and the San Francisco Chronicle called him a "master of the jazz bass," with international critics likewise praising the distinctiveness of his voice. He is also a highly respected educator.
